Negotiations on the new minimum wage have been adjourned to today, Wednesday, after organized labor rejected the Federal Government’s new proposal.
The government had increased its offer from ₦48,000 to match the ₦54,000 proposed by the Organized Private Sector last week. However, a reliable source at the meeting, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that the government’s representatives did not seem serious about the negotiations.
Moreover, state governors were absent from the meeting, and their representatives from Bauchi and Niger states did not have the authority to negotiate on their behalf.
Organized labor reiterated their May 31, 2024, deadline for implementing the new minimum wage and showed no signs of compromising on their demand for a ₦615,000 minimum wage.
