Xenophobia Fear: Another Plane Full of Nigerians Go Land Lagos Tuesday – FG

As fear of fresh xenophobic attacks dey rise for South Africa, Federal Government don confirm say another evacuation flight go carry Nigerians come back home on Tuesday.

Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, tell Vanguard on Monday say Air Peace aircraft don leave Nigeria on Monday and e go return with another batch of Nigerians wey choose to come back home from South Africa.

According to am, the plane leave Nigeria by 3:00pm on Monday, June 29, 2026, and e go land South Africa around 9:00pm local time. The return flight go take off by midnight and arrive Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning.

The evacuation exercise dey happen as tension dey rise over planned anti-immigrant protests wey go start for June 30. Because of the situation, Federal Government dey continue voluntary evacuation programme for Nigerians wey want return home.

Ebienfa advise Nigerians wey still dey South Africa after the protests start make dem remain calm and security-conscious. E tell dem make dem avoid areas wey protesters gather, stay away from protest routes and keep in touch with Nigerian High Commission for updates and assistance.

The latest evacuation na part of the programme wey President Bola Tinubu approve earlier this month to help Nigerians wey want leave South Africa return safely.

On June 7, Federal Government announce five Air Peace evacuation flights after more than 500 Nigerians register for the exercise.

So far, government don already bring back 328 Nigerians in two batches. The first flight wey land on June 11 carry 262 people, while another 66 returnees arrive Lagos on June 25.

The evacuation operation dey run through partnership between Federal Government, Air Peace and other relevant agencies.

Meanwhile, Nigerian High Commission for Pretoria don repeatedly warn Nigerians to avoid unnecessary movement, stay away from protest venues and remain alert following reports of planned demonstrations against foreign nationals.

Federal Government also say e dey work closely with South African authorities to protect Nigerians wey still dey the country while evacuation efforts continue.
