One big political development don happen for Kwara State as Hon. Saba Gideon, wey dey represent Edu State Constituency for Kwara State House of Assembly, don officially resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gideon confirm the development on Thursday, saying the decision come after plenty consultation with im constituents and stakeholders. According to am, the way things dey run inside the party concerning internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness no sit well with am again.

For resignation letter wey e write on August 19, 2026, and address to the APC Ward Chairman of Tsaragi Ward 3 for Edu Local Government Area, Gideon announce say e don end im membership with the ruling party immediately.

The lawmaker explain say recent happenings inside the party force am to take the decision after careful thinking and consultation with people wey matter around am.

Despite leaving APC, Gideon assure the people of Edu Constituency say im commitment to represent dem well for the Assembly no go change.

E still thank APC and party members for the support and opportunity wey dem give am during the period wey e spend for the party.

Gideon resignation come months after serious face-off between am and the leadership of Kwara State House of Assembly.

For December 2025, the Assembly suspend am for three months after dem accuse am of secretly recording one closed-door meeting and sharing the audio with somebody wey no get permission to hear am.

According to the Assembly leadership, the action fit damage the image of the legislative institution and amount to contempt plus breach of legislative privilege.

Then Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, describe Gideon conduct as serious misconduct, while the Assembly order am to write apology letter during the suspension period.

But Gideon challenge the suspension for court. For February 2026, Kwara State High Court cancel the suspension, declaring am illegal, unconstitutional and without any legal effect.

The court rule say the Assembly no follow due process and that the suspension violate Gideon rights under the law.

The court victory later become one major turning point for the crisis between the lawmaker and the Assembly leadership.
