Customs Don Give 30-Day Deadline for Clearing Imported Goods

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) don introduce new rule wey give importers 30 days to clear their goods for port.

The policy na to reduce port congestion, make operations smooth, and stop quarrel about overtime cargo.

For statement wey NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, release for Abuja, dem talk say this new rule dey follow Federal Government Ease of Doing Business policy and Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023.

As e be for Section 30(1) of the Act, importers gatz clear their goods within 30 days after dem don discharge the cargo from the carrier.

If importer no fit clear goods within this time, dem fit apply for extra 30 days clearance from Customs Area Controller. But if the clearance pass 60 days, approval from Assistant Comptroller General or Zonal Coordinator go dey necessary, and clearance must complete within 90 days.

Any goods wey still remain uncleared after 90 days go face disposal by NCS.

NCS talk say this new rule go help business, improve clearance process, and reduce wahala wey dey come from long cargo storage for port.
