Heads of State and Government for ECOWAS don yan on Sunday for Abuja say make dem immediately release and reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum as the legitimate Head of State and Government for the Republic of Niger. For the communique wey dem release after the summit, wey the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, read, the leaders condemn the illegal detention of President Bazoum, and him family and government members, and dem dey demand the full restoration of constitutional order for Niger.
The Summit wey President Bola Tinubu host, as the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, still agree say make dem appoint and send one Special Representative to carry the demands of the authority go give Niger. Dem talk say if the demands no meet within one week, dem go take all necessary measures to restore the constitutional order for Niger.
As response to the coup attempt, the Summit talk say make dem sanction Niger immediately. The sanctions include closing land and air borders between ECOWAS countries and Niger, creating a no-fly zone for all commercial flights to and from Niger, issuing travel bans and freezing assets of the military officials wey dey involved for the coup, and suspending all commercial and financial transactions between ECOWAS Member States and Niger.
For him closing remarks, President Tinubu thank the fellow leaders, Moussa Faki Mahamat wey be African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simaõ, for their active involvement and valuable contributions for the discussions during the Summit.
