UK don agree to give up sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, wey dey for Indian Ocean, after more than 50 years.

This deal, wey follow years of negotiation, go see UK hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, but the US-UK base for Diego Garcia go still dey intact. Dem dey use Diego Garcia as military base for US navy ships and long-range bombers.

The announcement come from a joint statement by the UK and Mauritian Prime Ministers, and e mark the end of decades of sometimes tense negotiations between the two countries. The deal still dey subject to finalising a treaty, but both sides don promise to finish am as quickly as possible.
