July 31, 2024

Organisers of the planned #EndBadGovernance protests wey dem plan for August 1 don reject the proposal wey Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, give, say make dem confine the protests to specific locations. For the meeting wey dem get with the organisers on Tuesday, the IGP suggest say make dem do the protests for identified places and make dem no do street rallies.

But one of the lawyers for the Take It Back Movement, one of the groups wey dey organise the nationwide protests, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, reject the proposal. The protests, wey dem plan to fight against economic hardship, don already dey scheduled to hold for all the states for Nigeria, including the nation’s capital, Abuja, for August.

Meanwhile, Lagos High Court don grant one ex parte application wey the State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, file to restrict the protests for Lagos to only two places: Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park for Ojota and Peace Park for Ketu.

Justice Emmanuel Ogundare grant the order wey go serve as preemptive remedy with an interim injunction, wey go restrict the defendants from gathering and doing the proposed protests for Lagos from August 1 to 10, except for the two approved locations from 8 am to 6 pm.

While he dey present his application for court, the Attorney General argue say, as the Chief Law Officer of the State, and because him don see different notices from people wey dey support and people wey dey against the nationwide protest, e dey necessary to protect the critical infrastructures of the state and prevent the kind loss of lives and property wey happen during the EndSARS protest for 2020.

Pedro still talk say the police for Lagos no get enough manpower to provide security for the protesters wey plan to protest for all the local government areas, public highways, and other public places for the state.
