Nigeria and India don agree to strength ties for maritime security and counter-terrorism

Nigeria and India don reaffirm their commitment to a strong strategic partnership, and dem don pledge to work together for better economic development, defence, healthcare, and food security.

Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan, report say dis agreement dey inside a joint statement wey dem release on Sunday for Abuja after Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, finish im state visit to Nigeria, as invited by President Bola Tinubu.

After Indian Prime Minister receive formal welcome, plus 21-gun salute at the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi hold one executive meeting. Dem later come join together for one big meeting wey involve more political and bilateral talks. During the talks, both leaders agree say dem go work closer together for counterterrorism, maritime security, and intelligence sharing.

Prime Minister Modi also talk say India ready to help Nigeria improve its defence systems, and both countries agree say dem go work together to protect maritime trade routes and fight piracy, especially because of the growing threats for Gulf of Guinea and the Indian Ocean.

Nigeria and India agree say dem go continue to do regular naval exercises and joint anti-piracy operations for the Gulf of Guinea to protect important maritime routes.
