The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced a temporary suspension of three telecom licences starting from May 17, 2024.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) don talk say dem go suspend three telecom licences from May 17, 2024.

The licences wey dem wan suspend be the Interconnect Exchange Licence, Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Licence, and Value Added Service (VAS) Aggregator Licence.

Mr. Reuben Muoka, wey be the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, talk this one through one statement wey dem issue yesterday. According to am, the suspension dey necessary so that the commission fit do thorough review of these licence categories. The review go focus on plenty important things like how the competition be, if the market don full, and how the overall market dey.

The statement wey Mr. Muoka issue talk say, “In line with its powers under the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 to grant and renew licences, promote fair competition and develop the Communications Industry, the Nigerian Communications Commission (the Commission) hereby informs all stakeholders of a temporary suspension on issuance of new licences in the following categories: Interconnect Exchange Licence, Mobile Virtual Network Operator Licence, and Value Added Service Aggregator Licence.”

NCC don talk say during the time wey the suspension dey, dem no go accept new applications for these licences. But dem talk say applications wey don dey submitted before May 17, 2024, go still be considered based on how dem be.

The reason for this temporary suspension na to give NCC chance to check the telecom sector well-well and make sure say everything dey okay and competitive.
