The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) don re-emphasize say the ban on the sale and consumption of sachet alcoholic beverages still dey in force.

This statement come from NAFDAC’s Director General, Moji Adeyeye, during a press briefing wey dem hold for Lagos on Wednesday.

Adeyeye talk say the ministerial directive wey support the ban still dey valid, as she state, “The ban on sachet alcohol na ministerial directive and the ban still dey until the ministers respond. The meeting wey we get last week Thursday na continuation of the discussion.”

Despite NAFDAC’s firm stance, recent developments for the House of Representatives don introduce some confusion regarding the status of the ban.

Philip Agbese, the deputy spokesman for the House of Representatives, disclose last Friday say the House and NAFDAC don resolve to lift the ban temporarily.

Agbese explain say the decision to lift the ban reach after a meeting between the House Committee and NAFDAC officials. He note say the lifting of the ban go be temporary and e dey contingent on the country’s economic recovery. “The lifting of the ban go end when the economy fully recover from its current strain,” Agbese talk.

According to Agbese, the temporary lifting na to alleviate economic pressures, suggesting say the ban on sachet alcohol fit no dey as rigid as initially presented by NAFDAC.
