The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) don ban alcoholic beverages wey dey produced in sachets wey be less than 200ml and PET bottles wey also dey less than 200ml.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, talk this one for Abuja on Monday, during one media briefing.
Adeyeye talk say the ban no be sudden matter, but e be the result of one agreement wey dem make for 2018, where manufacturers of these products suppose stop to produce them for sachets and PET bottles within five years.
Based on that agreement, NAFDAC no give any renewal licenses wey go pass January 2024 to any manufacturer wey dey produce these products. The ban don dey happen in phases, and the enforcement start on February 1, 2024.
According to Prof Adeyeye, the reason why NAFDAC ban these drinks for sachets na because of the negative effects wey dem get on small pikin, especially because the drinks dey come in sizes wey fit enter pocket, e dey accessible, and e dey affordable. She talk say pikin fit easily fall for these kind packages and face bad consequences for the future.
