One bill wey dey propose to extend bereavement leave for both male and female workers wey lose their spouses don make progress for Nigerian House of Representatives, afta dem read am for the second time for plenary on Tuesday.

The bill, wey Rep Saidu Abdullahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wey dey represent Niger State, present, na to support people wey dey deal with the loss of their spouses by giving dem more time off from work.

Abdullahi talk say e dey important to address di needs of people wey dey grieve and make Nigeria dey among the top countries for di world wen we dey talk about workers’ welfare.

For him presentation, Abdullahi emphasize di cultural and religious diversity wey dey for Nigeria, talk say di way dem dey give bereavement leave, wey usually na around 14 days for public sector organizations, fit no dey enough to take care of di mourning wey dey happen for di country. E talk say e dey important to consider cultural context like di different mourning periods wey dem dey observe for different regions and religious traditions.

The proposed bill dey aim to extend bereavement leave to up to five months for widows and 30 days for widowers, wey go align with di cultural norms and practices across Nigeria.
