NUPENG don lock fuel depots as talk between FG and Dangote dey drag

Fuel loading activities don shut down across Nigeria as members of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) begin strike action on Monday. Di union vex say Dangote Refinery dey try stop workers from joining union, and despite Federal Government intervention, talks still never reach agreement.

Di wahala start as Dangote Group begin use 4,000 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, but dem no gree make di drivers join NUPENG. Di union call am anti-labour practice and say e dey violate workers’ rights under Nigerian law and international labour conventions. NUPENG President, Williams Akporeha, insist say dem no go back down until Dangote change him policy.

Federal Government try settle di matter with emergency meeting wey involve Ministry of Labour, Dangote Group, NUPENG, and other stakeholders. Di meeting wey suppose start by 10am delay reach evening, and even after long hours of talk, dem no fit sign agreement because Dangote officials no gree with some resolutions.

As strike begin, fuel depots for Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt and other cities don shut down. Tanker drivers park their trucks and refuse to load fuel. Filling stations dey close, and transport cost don begin rise for some areas. PETROAN and other unions don warn say if matter no resolve soon, fuel scarcity go hit hard.

For now, NUPENG say compliance with di strike dey 100 percent nationwide. Di union don warn say dem no go accept any attempt to enslave workers or silence union voice. As talks still dey drag, Nigerians dey brace for possible fuel shortage and economic tension if resolution no come quick.
