Lagos State Police Command don intercept 47 sacks wey full of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of substances wey dem suspect say na illegal drugs during one intelligence-led operation for Surulere area of the state.
Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Fatai Tijani, yarn this one on Tuesday for police headquarters for Ikeja. E also confirm say police arrest three suspects in connection with the recovered items.
According to am, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrest Chinedu David, 29, Ezeagwu Chukwuma, 38, and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi, 45, on Saturday night after dem catch dem with one MAN diesel truck wey no get registration number.
Police say the truck carry 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of substances wey dem believe fit be illegal drugs.
Preliminary investigation show say the truck allegedly dey transport the military uniforms go South-East region of the country.
CP Tijani talk say investigation still dey continue to uncover where the uniforms and suspected drugs come from, who own them, and the people wey dem intend to deliver the items to. Police also dey try identify other people wey fit connect to the operation.
The police boss however assure Lagos residents say the recovery no pose any immediate threat to the state because the consignment dey move out of Lagos.
Still, e raise concern say criminals and bandits don dey use military uniforms for different illegal activities across the country, making the recovery an important breakthrough for security agencies.
One police officer wey no want make dem mention im name reveal say na the truck driver and im assistant police first arrest before two other suspects later show up for Surulere police station to claim the recovered items, leading to their arrest.
The operation come amid growing concern over how military-style uniforms dey find their way into the hands of criminal elements across Nigeria.
