Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, don carry fresh court wahala give ICPC as him file ₦10 billion lawsuit against the anti-corruption agency over allegation say dem no allow him wife and son see am while e dey inside detention.
For the suit wey him lawyer, Ubong Akpan, file for Federal High Court, Abuja, El-Rufai talk say ICPC repeatedly block him wife, Aichatou Asabe, and him son, Abba El-Rufai, from visiting am despite say dem be immediate family.
The former governor claim say because of the restriction, e no fit receive food, medicine and other important things wey him family suppose bring come for am. According to am, nobody show any court order or lawful reason why dem stop the visits.
El-Rufai come argue say the action na clear violation of him fundamental human rights as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution and African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Him further allege say on July 7, ICPC officers allegedly hold back, harass and intimidate him wife and son when dem come try see am, describing the incident as serious interference in him family affairs.
According to the former governor, even if person dey detention, e still get right to maintain contact with family members and enjoy dignity as a human being.
For the court papers, El-Rufai dey beg the court make e declare say the continuous refusal to allow him wife and son access to am without lawful authority na illegal, unconstitutional and abuse of power.
Among the nine reliefs wey him place before the court, one of the biggest na the ₦10 billion compensation wey him dey demand for the alleged suffering, emotional stress and violation of him rights.
As the matter don land for court, many Nigerians dey watch to see whether ICPC go defend the allegations or whether the legal battle go open another chapter for the former governor’s ongoing face-off with anti-graft agencies.
