Twenty prospective NYSC members wey kidnappers carry while dem dey travel from Oyo State go orientation camp for Abia State don regain their freedom.
Dem regain freedom seven days after gunmen kidnap dem for Owerri-Onitsha Road around Umunoha area of Imo State.
Police confirm the development on Wednesday through Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu.
According to police, security operatives rescue the victims after serious search-and-rescue operation wey involve Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.
The rescue operation happen around 4:28pm on Wednesday for Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State.
After dem rescue the victims, security agencies carry dem go hospital for medical check-up and treatment.
Police however no talk whether dem don arrest any of the kidnappers, as the suspects still dey on the run.
Iniedu say security agencies never stop operation and dem dey work hard to arrest everybody wey get hand for the kidnapping.
The police thank Nigerians for their support and cooperation during the operation, promising to continue protecting lives and property across the country.
Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, also confirm the release of the corps members.
According to am, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, personally call am around 5pm on Wednesday to inform am say the kidnapped graduates don regain freedom.
One parent of the victims, Alhaja Alimot Akande, express happiness over the good news.
She say the family still dey overwhelmed with joy and dey eager to see or speak with their children after the difficult experience.
Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma praise security agencies for their quick action and cooperation wey lead to the successful rescue of the corps members.
The governor explain say government deliberately handle the matter quietly to avoid any action wey fit affect the operation or put the victims’ lives in danger.
He also thank the parents and families of the victims for their patience throughout the period.
Imo APC too commend the rescue operation and praise security personnel for their bravery and professionalism.
Before the rescue, the kidnappers reportedly demand N50 million ransom for each victim, making am N1 billion altogether.
Later, dem reduce the demand to N5 million per person, which come amount to N100 million.
