September 5, 2025

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) don announce say any school wey wan participate for Computer-Based Test (CBT) exams must get at least 250 computers and CCTV cameras. This new order na part of WAEC plan to move all WASSCE exams go digital by 2026.

WAEC talk say dem don already start CBT for private candidates since 2024, and the results show say students dey perform better for computer-based exams than the old paper style. Now, dem wan expand am reach all secondary schools wey dey write WASSCE. The Head of WAEC National Office, Amos Dangut, talk say dem don do five CBT exams already and everything go full scale by 20262.

To make sure say the exams go smooth and secure, WAEC say schools must provide 250 working computers, internet connection, and CCTV cameras to monitor the exam halls. Dem also dey work with government and private CBT centres to support schools wey no get enough facilities.

But some people don dey worry say many schools no ready for this kind change. Education experts and school owners dey talk say the cost to buy computers and install CCTV fit too much, especially for rural areas wey no get light or internet. Dem dey beg government to support schools with money and training.

Even with the wahala, WAEC still dey stand gidigba on top the plan. Dem believe say CBT go make exams faster, reduce cheating, and help students prepare better for digital future. As 2026 dey near, all eyes dey on schools to meet the new requirement and upgrade their systems.
