United Nations don warn say world no dey meet target to end extreme poverty before 2030 under Sustainable Development Goals.
According to UN, about 808 million people, wey be one out of every 10 people for world, dey live for extreme poverty for 2025. Dem update the figure after dem change international poverty line to 3 dollars per day based on 2021 purchasing power parity.
Even though poverty reduce well well for past decades, progress don slow down seriously. If things continue like this, almost 9 per cent of world population still fit dey extreme poverty by 2030.
UN still raise alarm about hunger level, wey don go back to the kind level wey dem last see for 2005. Food price increase for many countries don make poverty and food insecurity worse.
Dem explain say poverty get many sides. E dey caused by no job, social exclusion, and people wey dey vulnerable to disaster, disease and economic shocks. Growing inequality too dey affect economic growth, social stability and peace.
For social protection matter, UN talk say even though support increase small during COVID 19 period, almost half of world population, about 3.8 billion people, still no get any protection, including 1.4 billion children.
Even though more than 100 countries bring short term relief measures during cost of living crisis, UN say countries need permanent, universal and sustainable social protection systems.
UN call on governments, businesses and citizens make dem work together to create inclusive growth, provide more job opportunities, support innovation and make sure say nobody dey left behind by 2030.
