US President-elect, Donald Trump, has selected Florida congressman Michael Waltz as the next National Security Advisor, two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News, the BBC’s US news partner.
Waltz, a long-time Trump supporter, won re-election last week for what would have been his third term in Congress.
This appointment comes as Trump continues making more key appointments ahead of his return to the White House in January.
Loyalists of the president-elect, including Lee Zeldin, one of his staunchest impeachment defenders, and Tom Homan, who served in his last administration, have secured top roles in climate and immigration policy.
Republicans are edging closer to taking full control of the US Congress after they claimed a majority in the Senate, and counting continues for the House of Representatives.
