He talk say di hardship don put fear and worry for serving officers body, and e dey weaken morale for inside di ranks.
He yarn this one during meeting with senior police officers for Abuja.
On July 21, 2025, retired police officers protest for Abuja, as dem dey cry over di poor treatment and shameful pension wey dem dey collect.
During di protest, dem demand make dem comot from di Contributory Pension Scheme, say di scheme don dey cheat dem.
Egbetokun, wey talk for Abuja on Tuesday, say di condition wey retired officers dey live no dey acceptable at all, especially with di kind sacrifice wey dem don make for service.
“Today, most retired officers of di Nigerian Police Force dey live for condition wey no just unacceptable, but dey humiliating, considering di sacrifice wey dem make for service to di nation.”
“Their monthly pension under di CPS na very low and e no dey enough to meet even di most basic needs. Plenty of dem no fit afford healthcare, house, or live with dignity,” na wetin Egbetokun talk.
He add say, “One area wey I dey seriously committed to na di welfare of our retired officers under di Contributory Pensions Scheme. Di condition wey dem dey face after service dey heartbreaking and morally unacceptable.
“This retirement don turn to period of serious hardship and regret, and e don spoil di confidence of serving officers, wey now dey see their future with fear instead of hope.”
Egbetokun talk say di poor condition of retirees dey affect morale of serving officers.
“Among serving officers, fear don enter body well-well, because dem believe whether na true or not say retirement na journey into hardship.
“This fear don spread so tey e dey affect morale across all ranks,” he talk.
He add say even though police leadership dey support make dem comot from di scheme, any decision wey dem go take must follow “prudence and strategy” so dem no go enter another wahala.
Egbetokun talk say di effort wey dem don make to educate officers about di CPS don dey misunderstood.
“Attempts wey we make to teach dem how di Contributory Pensions Scheme dey work, dem don take am as plan to keep dem for permanent bondage under CPS,” na wetin he talk.
Di police oga talk say leadership don start effort to add something join di pension wey retired officers dey collect, and dem don present their position to National Assembly during di public hearing of di bill wey dey seek to remove police from di scheme.
He talk say, “This our position still strong as I write recent letter go National Assembly.
“Even though di agitation to comot from di Contributory Pensions Scheme dey correct and e dey based on real-life experience, e important make we use sense and strategy take do am.”
Egbetokun still warn make dem no rush take decision.

Egbetokun also announce new welfare incentive wey go help boost morale among serving officers.

When dem ask am about wetin former Inspector-General, Usman Baba, talk about CPS, Egbetokun talk say, “People wey sabi me know say I dey believe in service discipline. So I no go like enter argument with am.”
