Osun State Government don vow say e go drag Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) go court after the anti-corruption agency allegedly freeze some government accounts.
Osun Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, talk on Wednesday say Governor Ademola Adeleke don give am full authority to challenge EFCC for court over the matter.
According to am, EFCC send one “Post No Debit” letter go First Bank on Wednesday, ordering the bank make nobody touch money from the state government accounts wey dey there.
Jimi-Bada say although EFCC get right to investigate any account, the agency no get power to freeze government accounts without first getting court order.
“Governor don direct me make I go Federal High Court challenge this action. EFCC fit investigate the accounts, but dem no fit just freeze am without court approval,” Jimi-Bada tok.
He warn say the move fit scatter normal government work and affect how the state dey run daily activities, but insist say Osun Government no go fold hand watch.
“This action fit affect government operations, but we go challenge am and make sure say EFCC follow the law,” he add.
Backing the Attorney General, Osun Commissioner for Finance, Sola Ogungbile, allege say police officers storm the main branch of First Bank for Osogbo and even arrest some bank workers.
Ogungbile also deny claims say Governor Adeleke dey use state money fund political campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
He urge EFCC to think about the effect wey the freezing of government accounts fit get on ordinary residents wey depend on government services.
Earlier on Wednesday, Governor Adeleke raise alarm say EFCC dey allegedly plan to freeze all Osun State Government accounts.
For statement wey Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, sign, the governor also claim say the anti-graft agency dey allegedly plan to freeze accounts belonging to top government officials for the state.
Adeleke describe the alleged move as unlawful and accuse some people of trying to cripple government activities before the August 15 governorship election.
“The plan to freeze government accounts na move to paralyse government work ahead of the governorship election,” the statement quote the governor as saying.
The governor insist say there is no legal reason to freeze Osun State accounts, arguing say EFCC no get constitutional power to freeze the account of a state government without following due process.
As tension dey rise over the issue, all eyes now dey on the court as Osun Government prepares legal battle against the anti-graft agency.
