The Organised Labour, consisting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), don once again reject di Federal Government latest proposal for new minimum wage. Di government offer of ₦60,000 no reach wetin di labour unions dey expect, as dem don now adjust their demand to ₦494,000 from their previous stance of ₦497,000.

For di recent meeting of di Tripartite Committee, wey dey tasked with negotiating a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers, di Federal Government and di Organised Private Sector (OPS) propose increased offer of ₦60,000 per month. Dis proposal na increment from their earlier suggestion of ₦57,000 wey dem make last week, but di labour unions reject am.

Di labour unions don dey firm for their stance, originally demanding ₦615,000 as di new minimum wage. But in a bid to reach compromise, dem lower their demand to ₦497,000 last week, and now further to ₦494,000 for di latest round of talks.

A prominent member of di Tripartite Committee reveal say di government initial proposals include figures of ₦48,000 and ₦54,000, but di labour unions quickly dismiss dem. Di current proposal of ₦60,000 also no meet di expectations of di unions, resulting in deadlock for negotiations.

Di committee meeting on Tuesday end without agreement, highlighting di ongoing tensions and di significant gap between di demands of di Organised Labour and di offers from di Federal Government and di OPS. Di deadlock leave millions of Nigerian workers for uncertainty as di cost of living continue to rise without corresponding increase for wages.
