Ofili don run new season’s best of 22.05s to qualify for the final on Monday, coming second behind new 100m champion Julien Alfred in the first semi-final. She don beat her previous best of 22.24s wey she run for the heats on Sunday. She be the second Nigerian, after shot put thrower Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, wey don make the final for track and field events of the 2024 Olympics.
Meanwhile, Ezekiel Nathaniel don cruise into the semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles for him first Olympic outing. The Nigerian national record holder come second in heat 4 with a time of 48.32s to secure automatic spot. Nathaniel na the first Nigerian athlete in 12 years to make the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at the Olympics, after Amaechi Morton for London 2012.
Similarly, Oborududu don suffer narrow 3-1 defeat to Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova in the semi-finals of the women’s 68kg freestyle wrestling on Monday night. The loss don end her quest for gold but she still dey in contention for a bronze medal.
