The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) don reassure Nigerians say their data dey secure, after some recent allegations of sensitive data exposure surface.

The assurance come from one statement wey NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, release on Saturday.

Wahala dey as Paradigm Initiative, one pan-African social enterprise, claim say personal data of Nigerians, like National Identification Numbers (NINs) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), dey sell online for as low as N100. The organization point finger at one website, ‘AnyVerify.com.ng,’ say dem dey involved in the unauthorized distribution of this sensitive data.

Paradigm Initiative talk say plenty unauthorized websites dey claim say dem fit give access to personal and financial data of Nigerian citizens for small money, which suggest say data privacy violations dey everywhere.

In response to these reports, NIMC deny say dem authorize any entity or website to sell or misuse NINs or other personal data. The commission identify several websites, including idfinder.com.ng, Verify.Ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com, as unauthorized data harvesters wey dey illegally offer access to sensitive information.

“NIMC never authorize any website or entity to sell or misuse the National Identification Number (NIN) amongst all the identities,” the statement read. “These data harvesters no dey authorized by NIMC to access or manage sensitive data.”

The commission beg the public make dem no mind any claims or services wey these websites dey offer, and warn say dem fit be fraudulent. NIMC emphasize say any data wey person give these platforms fit dey collected and stored to illegally build their data services.
