Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) don reject any plan to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) for now, say e go put more wahala for businesses and households wey dey already face inflation.
For one communique wey dem release after meeting with the Presidential Tax Reform Committee for Abuja yesterday, the governors talk say dem support the ongoing work to update Nigeria tax laws, but dem no gree make dem increase VAT from the current 7.5%.
Dem suggest new way to share VAT revenue: 50% based on equality, 30% on derivation, and 20% on population.
The governors also talk say essential goods and agricultural produce suppose continue to dey exempt from VAT, so as to protect people and promote food security.
Dem no gree with the terminal clauses for development levies inside the Tax Reform Bills, as dem believe say agencies like TETFUND, NASENI, and NITDA need steady funding to support national development.
