ASUU branch for Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, don give Jigawa State Government two weeks ultimatum to fully implement di 2025 agreement between ASUU and Federal Government, and pay all di outstanding money wey lecturers never receive.
Di union warn say if government no meet their demands, lecturers for di university go begin industrial action from September 15, 2026.
ASUU-SLUK make di decision during special congress wey dem hold on Tuesday, September 1, to review di level of implementation of di 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement.
Di lecturers dey demand payment of outstanding allowances, annual salary increments, promotion arrears, third-party deductions and di approved 2024/2025 Earned Academic Allowance.
Dem also want government to pay annual increments wey dem say don dey outstanding since 2023, promotion arrears since 2024 and other responsibility allowances wey qualified staff never collect.
Di union also call on government to remove Sule Lamido University from IPPIS, saying di system no dey properly fit di special needs of di university. Dem further want government to pay all outstanding third-party deductions and review di reduction of di money wey dey go to di university from Local Government Contribution.
But Jigawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Yusuf Chamo, say government only receive di memo concerning di Federal Government agreement from National Universities Commission this September.
According to am, government never study di memo or include di required expenses inside di state budget. He add say di state government get di right to decide how e wan fund its two universities.
Chamo, however, assure say government dey ready to sit down with ASUU and dialogue so dat di matter no go cause disruption for academic activities. He also say Governor Umar Namadi administration remain committed to improving education for Jigawa State.
