Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, don warn say distraction from social media, emotional wahala and tiredness fit cause road accident and put motorists and other road users for danger.

Mohammed give di warning on Friday for di fourth Vanguard Mental Health Summit wey hold for Lagos, where e serve as chairman. Di summit focus on how to improve young people mental health for Nigeria, especially how social media, technology and personal wellbeing dey affect dem.

E explain say driving need full concentration, correct judgment and calm mind. According to am, stress, anger and tiredness fit make driver take wrong decision for road.

E warn say driver wey dey check social media notifications, argue with people online or allow emotional problems distract am fit put im life and di lives of other road users for danger.

Mohammed say person wey get healthy mind fit contribute to safer roads, but distraction fit increase di chance of road crash.

E acknowledge say social media and digital technology don help young people get information, learn new things, understand mental health better, receive support from friends and connect with professionals.

However, e warn say too much time for screen, online bullying, harassment, comparing personal life with wetin people dey show online, false information and pressure to maintain perfect online image fit affect people emotional wellbeing.

Di FRSC boss stress say di answer no be to condemn technology, but to encourage people make dem use am wisely and maintain healthy balance.

On how to improve young people mental health, Mohammed call for affordable and confidential mental health services wey young people fit access easily, including counselling and other forms of support.

E also urge government agencies, schools, parents, media organisations, religious bodies and civil society groups to work together to fight discrimination against people wey dey face mental health challenges and increase public awareness.

Mohammed praise Vanguard for continuing to organise di yearly summit. E note say media get important role to play in shaping public opinion, sharing correct information, allowing young people tell their stories and making sure institutions fulfil their promises on mental health.
