Federal Government don talk say Nigeria dey spend more than $10 billion every year to import food like wheat, rice, sugar, fish and tomato paste.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, yarn this one for the 2025 First Bank Agric and Export Expo wey happen for Lagos. Him Special Adviser, Ibrahim Alkali, represent am. Kyari talk say the money wey dem dey spend no fit continue like that, say e too much, and Nigeria need to boost local food production and export.

E still talk say agriculture dey contribute 35% to Nigeria GDP and also dey give work to about the same number of people, but Nigeria dey make less than $400 million from exporting farm produce.

Kyari say make government and private sector rethink how dem dey support agriculture, because Nigeria get plenty land, about 85 million hectares, and plenty young people wey fit work. E also confirm say President Tinubu dey serious about making Nigeria feed itself and reduce how we dey depend on imported food.
