As rain dey beat different parts of the country, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) don warn say heavy flood go jam 198 local government areas for 31 states plus Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from August 7 reach 21, 2025.
This warning show face as Lagos State government come sympathise with people wey dey Ikorodu wey flood affect after the heavy rain wey fall on Monday. Dem talk say dem don put correct plans to manage flash flood well-well and dem dey work on how to help people wey the flood touch.
Make una remember say Federal Government don already warn on Tuesday say flood go disturb 19 states. National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre wey dey under Federal Ministry of Environment don tell stakeholders and people wey dey those areas make dem take sharp precaution.
NiHSA for the alert wey dem give yesterday, divide the flood wahala into three levels: Very High, High, and Moderate depending on how the land be and how rain go fall.
According to wetin the agency talk, the states wey go feel the flood include: Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.
Dem still talk say over 832 communities dey at risk of different levels of flood.

Director General of NiHSA, Umar Mohammed, talk say: “NiHSA dey beg people wey dey the affected areas make dem shine eye, follow early warning instructions, and work with emergency people wey fit help.”
He talk say the alert na part of their work to protect lives and property.
He still beg state governments and local authorities make dem stand gidigba to protect their people.
“We dey call on state governments, local leaders, and everybody make dem take action quick to reduce the risk and keep communities safe,” Mohammed yarn.
He assure say NiHSA go continue to monitor the water level and give updates as e dey happen.
He still add say anybody wey wan know more or get flood update as e dey happen fit follow NiHSA official channels or contact their State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs).
Lagos dey plan help for communities wey flood affect.

Rotimi-Akodu explain say the kind rain wey fall on Monday and Tuesday no dey happen all the time, na once in many years kind rain.
He talk say, “Wetin happen na nature matter. Climate change dey real, and na why we dey try make sure say all our strong infrastructure dey work well to fight this kind challenge.
“We come here to deliver Governor’s message of sympathy to people wey flood affect both those wey lose property and those wey their house scatter.
“We still come check how the flood take affect the area and how far the drainage project don go. We wan see wetin we fit do quick to reduce the pain and help the people.”
Rotimi-Akodu still talk say government go make sure say the contractor wey dey handle the drainage work go fast so that dem fit solve the immediate problem for the area. He remind people say most of the places wey flood affect na flood plain areas.
He advise residents make dem dey behave well towards the environment, especially how dem dey throw away dirt. Make dem no dey throw waste inside gutter.
“We suppose avoid building or blocking road infrastructure, especially Right of Way. Make we remember say anything wey we do fit come back to affect us.”
Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde, still talk say he follow the inspection to check wetin really happen and gather correct information and numbers wey go help government take better decision to help people.
