Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don discover one illegal oil refinery wey dem suspect say Chinese nationals dey operate for Ogere area of Ogun State.
EFCC talk say dem discover the refinery on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after operatives of the commission’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 gather information and monitor the activities of people wey dey process illegal sludge oil.
The commission announce this one for statement wey its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, release on Tuesday.
Oyewale explain say when EFCC operatives storm the refinery, nobody dey there. This happen after the commission earlier raid four illegal lithium processing factories for the same area.
Even though the place don empty, operatives discover waste materials from the oil processing work and underground tanks wey dem believe say the operators dey use to heat and process sludge oil.
According to EFCC, two of the underground tanks wey operatives check contain substances wey dem suspect say na Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), wey people commonly dey call diesel.
Oyewale explain say preliminary investigation show say the operators dey bring sludge oil, also known as black sludge, from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, go the illegal refinery for processing.
He add say the operators dey use intense heat to process the sludge oil, allowing lighter petroleum substances to pass through different chambers and filters. Dem believe say this process dey produce diesel wey dem intend to sell for Nigerian market.
EFCC also reveal say workers wey dem meet for the facility tell operatives say the Chinese operators never tell dem their real identities or the name of the company behind the refinery.
The commission don therefore take over the premises as investigation continue to uncover who dey operate the refinery, who own the facility and the full extent of the suspected illegal activities.
EFCC say the investigation go also determine the level of economic damage wey the illegal oil processing activities fit cause.
