Nigeria Customs Service don talk say dem intercept 16 containers wey carry contraband things like gun, expired drugs and other illegal items. Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, yarn this one as dem show the seized containers give journalists for Apapa.
He talk say the importation of those containers na clear violation of law and e fit scatter the peace and security wey the country dey enjoy. “Today, I dey happy to announce say we don seize 16 containers of goods wey break our law and fit disturb our peace. The total value of all the things wey we seize pass N10bn,” Adeniyi talk.
As he dey give details, Adeniyi explain say dem get correct info about one 40ft container with registration number MRSU6407089. Officers from Customs and NDLEA come check am together.
At first, dem think say the container clean, but when dem do second search, dem find say 202 cans of Colorado loud (Canadian drugs) dey hide inside. Each can weigh 500 grams, and the total drugs na 101 kilograms.
But the intel wey dem get talk say no be only drugs dey inside. So dem use scanner check the container well well.
Na so dem discover arms and ammunition inside. Dem find two pump-action rifles, 25 cartridges, one Smith & Wesson pistol with 55 bullets, one blank and plenty accessories.
Dem also seize seven containers of expired drugs, three containers of expired food like margarine, and three containers of banned used clothes.
Over the weekend, Customs still seize another 40ft container wey get 1,290 sacks of frozen chicken. Another container get toothpaste wey dem hide with beads and Jalabiya dress, wey even break intellectual property law of one Nigerian company
CG Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, talk say over the weekend, dem launch one operation wey lead to the seizure of one 40ft container. That container get 1,290 sacks of frozen poultry. Another container with number FBIU5507953, also na 40ft, carry the same 1,290 sacks of frozen chicken.
He talk say another interesting seizure na one import wey break intellectual property law. The container get 305 cartons of toothpaste wey dem hide with beads and Jalabiya dress. He talk say this kind seizure show how Customs dey work with other government agencies to enforce brand protection rules.
He explain say the toothpaste na fake brand wey belong to one Nigerian company. And because NAFDAC no register the product, plus the brand wahala, dem seize am.
Dem also seize two other containers wey carry expired chest and lung medicine wey no get NAFDAC number.
Adeniyi still talk say dem intercept two more 40ft containers wey carry codeine. He say the info wey dem get show say the people wey bring those containers get link with the ones wey dem don seize before.
He confirm say the info wey Customs dey get dey help dem trace the importers. So far, dem don arrest five people wey get hand inside the matter.
Dem don arrest five people in total. Out of the five, three don already face court, and dem dey inside Ikoyi Prison now, dey wait for the main case wey go start next month.
Adeniyi talk say Customs go continue to work with both local and international partners, including customs offices from other countries, to use customs-to-customs cooperation track down the people wey dey behind these illegal operations.
He talk say dem go make sure say Nigeria no go turn dumping ground for all these kind contraband.
