Court don order Police make dem pay #EndSARS protesters N10 million because of human rights wey dem violate.

Federal High Court wey dey sit for Lagos don order Inspector-General of Police and Lagos State Commissioner of Police make dem pay N10 million to some #EndSARS protesters as damages for violation of their fundamental rights.

Justice Musa Kakaki wey judge di matter talk say di protesters wey apply for di case suffer unjust harassment and say police violate their constitutional rights when dem dey do di fourth memorial rally on October 20, 2024.

Justice Kakaki still talk say even though law enforcement get power under constitution to maintain order, dem must use di power inside di framework of democracy and rule of law.

Di judge confirm say di applicants get constitutional right to gather peacefully and associate, as e dey for Nigerian Constitution.

Di people wey carry di matter go court na Hassan Soweto, Uadiale Kingsley, Ilesanmi Kehinde, Osopale Adeseye, Olamilekan Sanusi, and Miss Osugba Blessing, plus others.

Groups wey support dem na Education Rights Campaign (ERC), Take It Back Movement (TIBM), and Campaign for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).

Di #EndSARS protesters wey sue talk say during di rally, police fire live bullets and tear gas, beat protesters anyhow, and arrest people without sense.

Dem still talk say after police arrest di protesters, dem keep dem inside Black Maria for hours before dem carry dem go Panti Police Station where dem still hold dem for four more hours before dem release dem.

Lawyer wey represent dem for court, Joseph Opute, talk say: “1st to 3rd respondents use full police force against di applicants under excuse say dem do their constitutional right for location wey 4th and 5th respondents no approve.

For affidavit, one of di victims, Hassan Soweto, wey be first applicant and coordinator of Education Rights Campaign, talk say him and other protesters chop beating, police tear-gas dem, and dem even detain dem unlawfully without any charge.
