Aviation Ministry don reject plan wey wan carry NSIB go SGF office

Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development don reject one proposed law wey wan carry Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) go under di Office of di Secretary to di Government of di Federation.

Dem present di ministry position during one public hearing wey House of Representatives Joint Committees on Aviation and Special Duties organise on Wednesday for National Assembly, Abuja.

Di hearing na to talk about di Bill wey wan change NSIB Act No. 35 of 2022.

Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Kana, wey represent Minister Festus Keyamo, talk say e important make NSIB still dey under di ministry. E say NSIB na agency wey dey investigate accident for aviation, maritime, rail and road transport.

Even though NSIB dey work for many transport areas, Kana talk say di main technical knowledge and foundation still dey aviation side, and e follow international rules wey ICAO set.

Kana warn say if dem move NSIB go SGF office, e fit cause politics wahala, reduce accountability and scatter policy arrangement.

E list reasons why NSIB suppose still dey under di ministry: dem go still benefit from aviation knowledge, follow national and international rules, get support without affecting investigation work, respond fast to safety wahala, and avoid delay wey fit happen if dem move am.

Kana still talk say NSIB independence dey protected because na President dey appoint di main officers, as law and ICAO Article 26 talk.

E confirm say di ministry ready to work with other people to improve Nigeria transport safety system, and dem go follow international best practice.

Chairman of House Committee on Special Duties, Agbedi Frederick, talk say di hearing dey important to make NSIB work better.

E say, β€œThis hearing no be just law matter, na chance to talk and move forward. Wetin una contribute go help make di new law show say we all dey serious about safety for Nigeria.”
