Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, don condemn the kidnapping of prospective NYSC members for Imo State, describing the incident as painful and heartbreaking.
Atiku call on the Federal Government, Imo State Government and security agencies make dem move fast-fast to rescue all the victims wey still dey captivity.
The incident happen on October 1 when gunmen attack two commercial buses wey dey carry prospective corps members along Owerri-Onitsha Road for Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The corps members dey travel from Ibadan, Oyo State, go NYSC orientation camps for Abia and Akwa Ibom when the attackers strike.
For statement wey e post for X, Atiku talk say:
“The kidnapping of 20 travellers, including prospective corps members, for Imo State dey painful well-well. Some don regain freedom, but others still dey captivity. Government and security agencies must act with urgency.”
Imo Police initially announce say dem rescue 10 passengers and recover the two buses, but reports from families later show say many victims still remain with the kidnappers.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, don deploy senior officers to coordinate rescue efforts.
Security operatives also reportedly trace the suspected kidnappers’ camp through intelligence gathering and drone monitoring.
However, planned operation against the hideout delay after security agencies discover say explosive devices dey around the area.
Atiku also express concern over school children wey kidnappers carry from Mussa and Lassa communities for Borno State.
According to am, many of the children don spend months for captivity and government must no forget dem.
“These children must not be forgotten. Their families deserve answers and updates,” Atiku talk.
Reports show say dozens of school children and one teacher still dey captivity months after attacks on schools for the communities.
The former Vice President also criticise the Tinubu administration over the security situation for the country.

He say young Nigerians dey face danger from secondary school level up to NYSC stage.
Atiku add say the first duty of any government na to protect lives and property of citizens.
