ASUU don waka dey protest for campuses across Nigeria on Tuesday to remind federal government say dem still dey wait make dem fulfill old promises, just two days before important meeting wey go happen for Abuja on Thursday.
From Obafemi Awolowo University for Ile-Ife, go Federal University of Lafia, University of Ilorin, University of Calabar, Abia State University, Usmanu Danfodiyo University for Sokoto, Federal University of Technology Akure, Plateau State University, University of Maiduguri, and Osun State University, lecturers carry placards, dey sing solidarity songs, dey warn say strike fit happen if government no answer dem.
Dem dey ask for same things everywhere: make government implement the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, release three and half months salary wey dem hold, pay 25–35% salary arrears, promotion arrears, pump money into universities, reject government loan plan for tertiary staff, and use UTAS instead of IPPIS to protect university independence.
For OAU, ASUU Chairperson Prof. Tony Odiwe talk say since 2009, lecturers never get salary upgrade and accuse government say dem dey delay the Yayale Ahmed committee report wey dem submit since February 2025. He talk say if wahala burst for campus, na government go carry the blame.
For FUOYE, ASUU Akure Zonal Coordinator Prof. Adeola Egbedokun talk say lecturers don tire. He say, “Our members dey teach with empty belle, dey owe money, and no fit buy basic things. If government wan provoke instead of act responsible, make dem ready for wetin go follow.”
For Lafia, ASUU Branch Chair Sunday Orinya accuse government of lie and neglect. He cry say lecturers dey die because of poverty and stress. He repeat say dem want salary wey dem hold, promotion arrears, and better funding for universities.
For Plateau State University, ASUU members protest with Vice Chancellor Prof. Shedrack Best and National President Prof. Chris Piwuna. Dem complain say salary bad, allowances no dey, and IPPIS dey spoil university freedom.
For Sokoto, protest gather lecturers from three universities. UDUS Chairman Prof. Nurudeen Almustapha demand make government quickly implement the Yayale Ahmed report. He call the loan plan “poisoned chalice.”
For UNILORIN, placards read “University workers no be slaves” and “Respect ASUU agreement.” Branch Chair Dr. Alex Akanmu talk say Nigeria no dey follow agreement and that one don make lecturers poor and university system dey collapse.
For Akure, FUTA ASUU Chair Prof. Pius Mogaji blast government say dem dey act like say the Yayale Ahmed report no matter. He warn say “all options still dey table.”
For UNICAL, Branch Chairperson Peter Ubi talk say government don scatter trust and push lecturers enter debt wahala. For Maiduguri, ASUU members protest say retirement benefits bad, arrears never pay, and dem vex say government rename the school after former President Muhammadu Buhari without asking anybody.
For Umuahia, Abia State University lecturers carry placards reject government loan plan and dey cry say salary never show.
For UNIOSUN, Chairperson Dr. Wende Olaosebikan complain say salary increment no dey and say lecturers dey suffer victimisation.
Across all the campuses, lecturers warn say if Federal Government no take serious action for Thursday meeting, the small peace wey still dey for universities fit scatter and strike go start again for the whole country.
