Amnesty tell the university management make dem settle the matter with discussion and understanding instead make dem give the students punishment wey fit affect their future.
The matter start after one video of nursing students dey dance for hospital waiting area, staircase and inside bus begin trend for social media.
The video, wey dem record for the university’s Elele campus, na part of one social media trend wey people dey call “Gen Z nurses” challenge.
The university reportedly expel one final-year nursing student wey dem identify as Mercy and suspend 14 other students wey dey 500 level.
One 15-second version of the video wey Yabaleftonline post on September 1 reportedly gather more than 1.7 million views for X.
Amnesty say the punishment fit stop the affected students from completing their education and affect their future careers.
The organisation also point out say the students get right to express themselves, receive education and enjoy freedom for their academic activities.
According to Amnesty, the kind punishment wey the university give the students fit make other students fear to express themselves, even when dem no do anything wey deserve such heavy punishment.
The organisation therefore call on the university to make sure say its rules and disciplinary actions follow international human rights standards.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Nigerian Universities Nursing Students’ Association (NUNSA) don also appeal to the university to reconsider the punishment.
NUNSA say e don begin discussion with important people to find way to review the decision, while NANS beg the university to forgive the students, warning say the expulsion and suspension fit affect their education and future work as nurses.
The university’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chima Achu, had earlier tell Sunday PUNCH say the school go release official statement on the matter.
