Abeg see wetin happen: Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don arrest one Abuja businessman, Innocent Ezuma, wey dey 57 years, over allegation say e collect more than $120 million from one Ukrainian investor without carrying out the projects wey dem agree on.
EFCC arrest Ezuma for im house for Abuja on Monday, October 19, and as of Tuesday, October 20, e still dey the commission custody.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirm the arrest when dem contact am on Tuesday, but e no gree give more details about the matter.
Sources talk say EFCC dey investigate Ezuma over different allegations, including advance fee fraud, breach of trust, money laundering, theft and collecting money under false pretence.
One source allege say between 2007 and 2015, Ezuma collect millions of dollars from the Ukrainian investor to carry out mineral exploration and electricity projects wey dem never complete. The source add say dem suspect am of diverting the money for im personal use.
Investigators dey also examine transfers of billions of naira to companies and individuals wey get connection with the businessman, including im children.
Another source reveal say EFCC don expand the investigation and dey look for information from members of the public and people wey don do business with Ezuma before. The allegations also concern some of im former business dealings for Ukraine and Nigeria
According to the source, sometime for the middle of the 2000s, Ezuma allegedly convince two Ukrainian businessmen to provide money to buy Jos Steel Rolling Mill for Plateau State during privatisation. But the source claim say after dem give am control of the facility, e allegedly remove some of the factory assets and abandon hundreds of workers without paying their salaries.
The businessman also face allegation say e shoot and seriously injure one of im business partners during one confrontation for Ukraine on April 28, 2008, before e run come back to Nigeria, according to the source.
EFCC spokesperson, Oyewale, confirm again say the commission arrest Ezuma for im Abuja residence on Monday, but e still refuse to disclose more information about the investigation.
